X-ray inspection is the only practical way to verify solder joints hidden from view. That is why it is standard practice in PCB assembly. Every inspection, however, leaves a dose behind in the components. That dose gets measured, but in numbers that rarely agree. The same value in grays can mean dose to water, to air, or to silicon, and which one often goes unsaid.
